Visiting Dubai to Promote on Socials? New Rules Now Require Influencer Permits, Even for Short Trips

By Al Kabban & Associates

A Digital Passport to Dubai’s Social Scene, With a Catch

Remember how effortless it used to be for influencers to jet into Dubai, film stunning footage, promote a brand or two, and fly out? Not anymore. The UAE has introduced new rules requiring visitor advertiser permits for international creators, even those visiting for holidays or short-term stays.

Starting just last month, any influencer landing in Dubai with plans to monetize their content, even temporarily, must secure this permit through a licensed advertising or talent agency approved by the UAE Media Council. The three-month permit (renewable once for another three months) allows influencers to legally post promotional content, else they risk fines and content takedowns.

Why This Really Matters, And Why Now

Dubai has long been a digital mecca for influencers, boasting top-tier infrastructure, influencer-friendly events, and seamless content creation environments. But that allure comes with responsibility. The UAE Media Council's regulations are designed to bring transparency, enforce local content standards, and protect consumers.

Whether you’re promoting a global brand during a vacation, attending an event, or just crafting engaging travel content, it now officially becomes “advertising” under their law if there's any brand association. And that means you need to be registered, approved, and operating through an official channel.

Real Scenario: Travel, Capture, Monetize

Imagine a popular YouTuber arriving in Dubai for a short stay. They plan to film, engage with local culture, and share product placements. Before, that would’ve drawn likes and views. Now, without the permit, it draws legal tinder. This new rule formalizes influencer activity, even at the grassroots level.

Penalties for non-compliance? These range from platform suspension to penalties up to a few thousand dirhams. Worst case, even visa or entry complications.
