Authorities in Fujairah have arrested a 23-year-old woman who appeared in a viral video wielding a sword during Eid Al Etihad (UAE National Day) celebrations. The video, filmed in the Al-Fuqait area, spread widely across social media, prompting an immediate investigation by law enforcement.

Police confirmed that the woman, seen carrying the traditional talwar among a crowd, was apprehended and referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action. Officials stressed that such behaviour violates UAE laws and customs and poses a potential risk to public safety.

Fujairah Police: “Zero-Tolerance for Unsafe Conduct”

In a statement, Commander Muhammad bin Nayeh Taniji, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, reaffirmed the emirate’s firm stance on protecting community safety during national events.

“Authorities enforce the law strictly and take precautionary measures against those involved in illegal activities. This ensures that celebrations take place safely and in accordance with UAE values,” he said.

Police reiterated that carrying weapons or sharp objects in public is prohibited, even during festivities, and warned that similar violations would face prosecution.

Legal Framework: Possession of Weapons in the UAE

Under Federal Decree-Law No. 3 of 2019 on Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives, it is illegal to possess, carry, display, or use any weapon—including decorative or traditional blades—without a licence.

The law aims to preserve public order, cultural respect, and safety. Penalties may include fines, imprisonment, and confiscation of the weapon. Displaying a weapon in public or using it in a manner that causes alarm can also trigger prosecution under public-order provisions of the UAE Penal Code.

Ensuring Safe National Celebrations

Every year, UAE police and municipalities issue public reminders encouraging residents to celebrate responsibly, prohibiting reckless driving, loud gatherings, or the use of dangerous objects. These measures reflect the nation’s commitment to maintaining joy and unity during celebrations while upholding public safety.

The swift action by Fujairah Police highlights the UAE’s proactive approach to ensuring that national pride is expressed safely, lawfully, and respectfully.

The incident underscores the importance of understanding how public-order offences and weapons laws apply even to symbolic or cultural items. UAE law places community safety above intent, meaning that even non-violent acts can lead to prosecution if they endanger or alarm the public.
