GPSSA Confirms Enhanced Pension Benefits for Emirati Women Under New Law
The UAE's commitment to empowering Emirati women has reached a new milestone with the confirmation of enhanced pension rights for women under Federal Law No. 57 of 2023. This development was recently reaffirmed by the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA).
Key Highlights of the New Pension Law:
- Three Years of Leave for Child Care: Emirati mothers now have the right to take up to three years of leave for child care while still contributing to their pension. This ensures that they receive a significant end-of-service benefit, supporting their long-term financial security.
- Enhanced Benefits for Widows: Widows will benefit from increased pension entitlements. If they have more than one child, they will receive 40% of the pension, with the same amount allocated to the children and the remaining 20% for the deceased’s parents.
- Reduced Contribution Period for Women with Children: The new law reduces the age and contribution period for married, divorced, or widowed women with children. The reduction is two years for each child from the fifth to sixth child and 3.5 years per child from the seventh onwards.
- Equal Distribution for Sons and Daughters: Pension distribution is gender-equal, ensuring that daughters receive the same entitlements as sons.
- Service Purchase Rights: Emirati women continue to have the right to purchase up to 10 years of service, while men are limited to five years.
Reaffirming Support for Emirati Women: These reforms are part of the UAE’s broader vision to support and empower Emirati women, enabling them to maintain their financial security and contribute effectively to the nation’s growth. The changes to pension rights reflect the UAE’s continued focus on gender equality, building on the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
